Overview
The Awaawaroa Bay Eco Village is home to an eel sanctuary which is part of a twenty-five-year wider wetlands restoration project.

Join storyteller Tanya Batt for a hikoi to visit the resident tuna of the awa. Hear about the fascinating life cycle and stories of our endemic long-finned eel, a taonga, and the largest of its kind in the world. Please carpool. Sorry dogs are not permitted within the eco village, and please wear gumboots!
